Do you find those types of transformers noisier, as in can you be close to the amp when playing? I have an amp with toroidal transformer and have to stay 6+' way or it's buzz city.

Ok here’s Marcus compared to 3 other Marks same track from my looper and same IR. Just some drop D power chord stuff. I’m honestly kinda over IRs or least my captor as a load box. Guess I’m willing to give the Suhr RL a shot

I wasn’t trying to make all of them sound identical or anything, just dialed in as I have them

I’m not noticing any noise issues so far, it’s quieter than my Mark III or IV lol. Taking it to band practice on Wednesday will report back if I notice any issues in that environment

They're very close!!! I think the Mesa are a bit smoother overall, but the Crab sounds excellent. They will probably sound identical in a mix.

The torroidal transformers shouldn't be noisier. My Laney has a torroidal power transformer and it's as quiet as my other amps.

What amp is it?

Yeah for sure, I do think the captor is coloring things a bit in a weird way lol

I need to grab a Suhr reactive Load lol

Interestingly enough, my preferences of how these sound favorite to least is V, Marcus, IV, III (although I think merely based on these clips IV would cut hardest in mix)

Which doesn’t necessarily reflect my IRL viewpoints

But I tried to give some sort of comparison haha. The crab definitely can hang if anyone’s looking for a Mark on a budget

Biggest things: GEQ is a bigger sweep and more sensitive, so kinda trickier to dial in, and I also kinda feel like the clean and R2 channels are a bit further off than real deals… but the lead channel sounds Mark through and through

Randall RG3003. It's the only toroidal equipped amp I've had so I don't know jack about them.

I couldn't gel with the Captor for anything with a good amount of gain. For clean to edge of break up tone the Captor works well, but for mid to high gain I'm not a fan. The Suhr is a much better load for that.

That said, I think I'll buy this amp. I want to have a Mesa tone but I don't use it enough to justify the cost of the real thing, so this seems like a great option.
