Now I'm thinking I might just get the regular Captor. I won't be using this live. Mainly for just home recording and amp attenuation for home practice, so I can work with having to go through my DAW/PC for IR sims. If I did want to have IR sims more on the fly down the road, I can just pickup a TC Electronic IR Loader pedal. How does that sound?

I don't even mind the process of going through the DAW at home for low volume practice. The tone coming from my studio monitors/headphones is amazing full tilt amp tone vs the attenuated tone through my cabs. Computer takes 10 seconds to turn on and be ready to go since I have the Captor setup all the time in to my interface .

So I looked more in the TC pedal, seems to have some latency from what people have said - so I started looking into Two Notes Turpedo CAB, the older rectangular shaped one. For headphone use without opening DAW, I'm thinking that might be a good option. They're older units, so I was seeing used prices as low as $130 and it seems to work just like the Wall of Sound software, with the options for power amp sim, eq, compression, 2 cabs.

I'd skip all of the power amp/eq/compression nonsense of the Wall of Sound and just run the Ownhammer IRs. Each speaker/mic combination has been profiled using a solid state amp, a 6L6 amp and a 6v6 amp so you can figure out which style you want. I only run Wall of Sound as an IR loader and with the Ownhammer IRs I am getting amazing results. Much better than *I* personally ever got with real mics and such.

How good is the attenuation on the Captor? I'm still leaning towards the 16 Ohm, but if the attenuation isn't really that great, I'll grab the 8 Ohm. Probably should've asked this first All my current amps are the Soldano designed Jet City amps so they have a decent master volume.

It does a solid job of knocking it down -20dB

Per Two Notes, if you run the speaker output then you just need to match the amp output to the cabinet.

So you can run a 16ohm tap through an 8ohm Captor in to a 16ohm cabinet.

When using the attenuated output per Two Notes user manual:

"The ATT output provides a -20dB attenuation. Just plug a speaker cabinet in the ATT output (use a standard speaker cable for this connection), and crank up your amp while keeping a manageable volume.

The speaker cabinet plugged in the ATT output can have a different impedance than the amp. However, this will lead to changing the attenuation ratio, which may vary from the designed -20dB. Using a speaker cabinet with a higher impedance (for example a 16 ohms cabinet on a 8 ohms Captor) will lead to less attenuation (approximately -15dB). Using a speaker cabinet with a lower impedance (for example a 4 ohms cabinet on a 8 ohms Captor) will lead to more attenuation (approximately -25dB)."

fwiw I only use the attenuator for my NMV amps. My Soldano sounds better if I just use the master volume because like you've noticed it's pretty solid.

This is the way to go. That WoS stuff is a bit of a waste of time. I guess you can get good results with it but meh... find an IR you like it and go with it. Much easier and it sounds better.

I do the same. I use WoS for the IRs and sometimes even their own cabs. I’ve bought a few, mainly from Fortin. And I’ll tweak the mics and speakers in there. But power amp nonsense, EQ, compression… I already know how to do that in the DAW and way more effectively. So I just turn that stuff off.
