I had the Syn 50-50 for 3 hours and returned it That's how much I disliked it. It sounds muddy, but also thin.
I don't even know how that is possible. Lol

Me either!!! First time for everything. Lol
It lacks low end severely so it sounds thin, but the highs are rolled off and dull so it's muddy too

That's strange. If I want an alternative in a "normal" form factor, it's either a $1350 Syn50 head, or a $1600 2/50/2.

I heard the Fryette version, LX something is much better, but I haven't tried it yet.

It appears to be $1400, but doesn't have presence and depth/resonance controls.

It does, but it's 2 little recessed knobs on top of the chassis. Which is not sure why he did it like that. But I guess once it's dialed in it's not a problem

Kind of weird, but good to know.

If it's just a 1u rack power amp as a backup then a Palmer macht 402 should fit the bill?

Yes!! Good call. That's an excellent power amp and it works great with the Synergy. I had completely forgotten about it, but that was the power amp I used with my Syn2
