Why are JCM900s not revered as much as their predecessors? I was looking at the schematic and it unsurprisingly deviates from an all-tube circuit. But it has reverb and an effects loop. Seems more complicated too with transistors and diodes.

Mostly because they don't sound like the classic Marshalls from before. The dual reverbs used to take a lot of crap, and my own personal opinion is also that they just don't sound as good as the other Marshalls, but they are okay. Not 2.7k okay though, that's just... daft... for a "it works just fine" amp - there are MANY amps I'd much rather have at that price, including a two-channel 800. SLXes are NOT Dual Reverbs though, very different beast, and while niche, much more appreciated. I've already got a Vintage Modern, everyone hates those ;-).

Yeah, you guys get absolutely slapped when it comes to marshall pricing. We get bent over for boogies. You can buy a Diezel for what a recto cost.
