Marshall cabs other than the 1960s?

Marshall 1965A/B - 4x10 cabs. Usually had G12L35s or G12S50s. I think these were a favorite of Mike Ness. Never seen one in the wild before but I’d love to own one.
Marshall 425A/B - basically the 1960s but repackaged a bit for the Vintage Modern amps. Comes with G12C Celestions. Some people like em, some hate em.

I had a 1965b cab for the longest time and it was just not great. The stock Celestions were not my favorite, and made me think I hated 10s for the longest time. Oh and it was constructed very poorly with super thin plywood back that would rattle at band volume and cause the cab to sound like it was farting out. I got a 1960a and there was no comparison at all and I sold the 4x10 for a loss.

I had a Jubilee 2x12 that was essentially the 1966a and it was basically the same cab as the 1965 with a 2x12 baffle. Sounded better due to the 12s but still had the crappy back panel and just didn't wow me like a real 1960.

Good to know about those! I don’t think I’m buying too many more cabs these days but I’ll stay away from the 65 and 66 cabs. My 1960A is my gold standard cab anymore. I swapped out the 75s for Greenbacks and it’s still my favorite. My Metro 2x12 with Creamback 75s is a close second.

That's just my take obviously, but there's a reason you don't see a lot of them being used in the wild. Weak ass fucking cabs

For a smaller 4x12, I think the 90s Valvestate 4x12s were actually pretty decent. I played some gigs with them back in the day and got good results.

Marshall's 1936 cabs (they are 2 x 12's) are killer depending on the year…if they’re from the 70’s, badged as JCM800, or made from 2012 til now they’re fantastic. JCM900 badged and models made before 2012 are made of MDF and don't sound anywhere as good as the all pine models.

Both of mine are from that modern era but not with stock speakers…one has Heritage G12-65’s and the other has UK built V30’s.

Was lucky enough to get each for $400 so I felt okay about the speaker upgrades. Goodness are both ever fantastic!

I have an awesome mid 80’s JCM800 1960A cab loaded with original era G12T75’s in it and either of my all-pine build 1936 cabs fully keep up with it without issue.
