I wonder if the 30 you played had a tube going out or something.

The SLO in either format reminds me of my vintage Fenders with a kick ass overdrive channel. I can see it absolutely needing a boost for modern metal and such, but the stock OD channel is spot on EVH FUCK/Ratt Lay it Down tone. I just can't imagine muddy being a descriptive word for the OD channel but I don't know your rig and the amp in question.

The SLO at max gain is fuzzy indeed. Every Soldano is, I think.
But the amp has a ton of gain, 7 would be the absolute max I'd go before it sounds fuzzy, but usually 4-5 is the most I use, which is perfect for hard rock. For metal I'd probably need a boost although I don't think you necessarily need a ton of gain for metal (unpopular opnion I know  )

Yeah, 5 is my max on the OD channel, and that's if I'm using my Tele or LPC with the low output Shaws. With higher output pickups I'm usually between 3-5 on the gain.

But even around 7 it's fuzzy but still articulate. Here's mine on 7 through the EVM loaded Thiele which doesn't really add any speaker breakup at all:

Hell this is my stock Strat running the gain at 5

I'm just going to tell myself, right now, that I can't afford the SLO30. I have nothing else to offer, because I don't need to start GASing for this amp. Lol

For the price they are new, I'd likely go for a Friedman Plex instead.

Well yes, but they're very different amps. I'll be getting the Plex for sure bit I'm glad I got the SLO-30. They cover different bases.

I'm wanting to pick up the Friedman to go with the SLO but they are way different amps.

Can't disagree with either point.

Is the loop series or parallel on this? Fuck. Might have to buy one next year.
