My favorite Rat it the EQD Life Pedal. They made the Rat a bit gnarlier and added an octave up.
Version 3 is the only one to get... 1 and 2 don't have an octave on/off switch.
Oh this is cool!!! Have you tried it on bass? Seems like it would be a cool distortion/octaver for bass.

Yeah that EQD Sunn Life has been on my radar for a bit! How is it on bass?
I have never tried it on bass!
(note to self: "Wow! I haven't picked up a bass in about two years!")
Here's the EQD produced bass demo with some very arbitrary knob tweaking:
...and a vid that shows the full range through feedback loop:

Its funny I never had a Rat either but I do have 3 versions of the Life pedal lol which btw Billie sounds killer with bass. Not to mention it will add +20 to all DooM and stoner rock skills

I keep a Rat around to remind myself of why I don't like it.
It's not that it sounds bad... it sounds good, but for distortion it just can't compete with a high gain amp IMO.
Supposedly is extremely accurate/authentic. I got mine way back when he was first making prototypes and although mine is a production spec unit, it came in a bare metal case with no markings other than a label maker sticker for the volume/gain/trebel cut.
It's a cool device and has a nice crunchy fuzzy thing going on but it's a sound I rarely use but still keep the pedal if I need something unique and it does cool things with bass guitar.

Another alternative is the JHS RatPack.... 9 Rat variations in one pedal.
