What is Sunn's claim to fame? They're one of the only cult brands I have zero experience with other than that band Sunn))) but they suck balls.
Can someone give me some examples of good Sunn tone?
A cranked Sunn yields a distortion you will either love or hate. Like spawn said, they are loud and very clean (to a point of course), which makes them excellent as a pedal platform. That's how I use mine, and I like to think I have good toanz I think most sunn's of this era used ultralinear transformers which has a certain characteristic in the toanz.
The general consensus seems like their bass amps are beloved while their guitar amps, not so much loved.

Ah I gotcha. Definitely not hating on the brand, only the band that ripped off their logo
I'll check out some clips

Leslie West used sunn as well, but he used a Sunn PA head.

Surprisingly not all that loud in that video if I recall. But it just got better the further up you went. Sweet amps for that sort of thing
