I like them but I'm usually not looking for modern metal tones. They do work well to give more of a "4x12" feel from a small cab. I like the MC90 but I agree the EVM sounds better, but t it also weighs considerably more, at which point you could look at some 2x12s.

Prices are good in both these cabs although the EVM is a bit too beat up. I don't mind the tolex being beat up but all that rust on the speaker can't be good. So maybe get the other first and give it a try. You can upgrade to the EVM later if you feel like you need to, the actual cab is the exact same on both versions.

With that said, I'd still convert that Mk IV to a head.

lolol Understandable!

For bedroom shit I was mostly doing at that time, it was damn near perfect. But the first time I took it to band practice, it was over. Sold it and went to a full size, and regretted that because the full size V didn't sound nearly as good. But the IV is a different animal. Definitely a monster of an amp that I'd love to own again. One of the tightest, most percussive amps I've had. But yeah, I never played a combo with a Thiele, so my experience in that area is non-existent. I did play a combo once while practicing with a random bass player that was filling in for one of my old bands. That was what made me decide I needed a Mark IV. No ragrets!! Except selling them, I guess lol.

But yeah, that EL84 Mesa power section fell apart so fucking fast when trying to get volume out of it. What a joke lol.

And I agree about the head conversion. Actually for me, 100% of the time I would convert a combo to a head. Combo is a pain in the dick to move around lol.

Yeah honestly just as a combo it kind of knocked down some of my previously held beliefs that a combo is always going to fail for high gain/metal. But it sounds great even as is and mic's up really well and easily.

There was an undeniable improvement in the low end/tightness department with my 2x12, but like I said, wasn't totally enough to convince me that I should do a headshell conversion. Of course, it might just be the fact that I don't really love T75s -that- much

If I did do a headshell conversion I'd probably also want a new 2x12 too... so between the shell and a new cab I'm looking at at least $800-1k

Of course, if I fuck around with a thiel and still eventually decide do a conversion I'm even further out in cash spent

Portability not too much of a concern for me, the casters are solid on it and it's not too horribly heavy. I feel like my roadster head weighs more than this whole combo

fwiw here's what I would do...

Buy the Thiele, either the EVM loaded one or get one and throw an EMV in it, and try it with the Mark IV combo as-is. Personally I feel this is the most versatile and modular setup possible for what you're doing. Takes everything you love about the current combo but makes it bigger and better.

If you are feeling lazy, or the venue is small you can just take the combo, but if you want to move some air bring the Thiele too.

Then in the interim you can run the Mark IV speaker out only through the Thiele to decide if that's a sound you dig. If so, get a headshell at some point but I'd recommend keeping the combo cab too. I think the Mark series combo is an ideal size given the sounds it produces vs portability and then having the Thiele to expand it when needed is :chefskiss:

Yep this is where I’m at rn 100%

EV in foco is looking like a no

I asked the c90 guy if I can pick up after I get off work (have practice tonight too so good timing)

It’s in his best interest to catch my wave of impulsiveness before I have time to catch second thoughts  :cop:

That’s not even up for debate. I’ve had several Mark IIIs, Vs and a IV. The only one I miss is the IV.

I've had a IIC, III, and a V... the IV is better than all of them.

Really wish I had picked one up when they were $1000

I miss my III and V, I've only had the IV for a couple weeks so won't speak on best mark yet... but it's looking pretty good for the IV

Vlad this IV was $1000 :cop:
