I'm going to swap preamp tubes tonight and see what that does. Maybe someone swapped a 12at7 in somewhere? Also have a good quad of 6L6's I could try if preamp tubes don't fix it. Otherwise I'll RMA that beeyotch.

Yeah. I had a JP2C new and it shipped with a bad tube, exact same symptoms as yours. New tubes solved it, can't remember if it was pre or power.

And... It is fixed! Microphonic V3 tube. Removed all shields and tapped with pencil, found it right away, had a new Sovtek 12ax7 and wow! Now its got nuts. Now it dials in how I expect a Mark to dial in. I can already tell I like it way better than any other Mark I've owned except the IIB loop moded Coli and I would say they are both different but very close to the IIC+ sound. Mark IV mode sounds pretty close to the Mark IV I had. Killer cleans and reverb. Crunch will work out once I figure out the midi implementation with my Boss GT 1000 and I can ise the graphic and PEQ's to dial it in as well as boosts. I almost bought the IIC+ reissue instead but I already know tonaly this is close enough and so much more liveable with all the features. Unless any other problems pop up, I'd say it's a keeper.

And that defective tube had an obvious visually bad manufacturing defect where the bottom of the glass was almost separated and had a ridge where it was formed. I never would have put that tube in any amp based on appearance alone.

Hell yeah!! The VII is no joke! They packed a lot of shit into that amp and really nailed the tone. To me it’s like a modern sounding mark series. But I feel like Mesa always kinda did that with each Mark iteration…they’re all kinda tone stamped for the time period they were released.
