Super 3 is a great pickup for superstrats, similar to the Super Distortion but with rolled highs and added low end. The idea is of the Super 3 to make a superstrat sound like Les Paul with the Super Distortion. And it does that well, IMHO.

Can't go wrong with the Super Distortion either, it's a classic for a reason. But I usually prefer the Super Distortion in Gibsons and the Super in superstrats. But it would work either way.

Well, I got it all put back together, and started off with the X2N because I've never tried one. I see exactly what you mean. It's very thick, with lot's of bottom, but very bland sounding. I've only played it through the Roadster yet, so I still have to put it through its paces through other amps, but I think it's gonna come out, and I'll be trying the Super 3 next.

The Super 3 will be a major improvement over the X2N.

X2n can sound like a brick! Especially in a dark guitar. But it has MASSIVE magnet pull. That’s how it really gets its power. And it’s usable even when lowered a LOT more from the strings that “normal” pickups. Won’t say it’ll always change it from dark to bright. But it can change a lot when lowered far from the strings. I believe even Dimarzio somewhere mentioned keeping that pickup far from the strings.

I’ve never really “loved” that pickup but early on in my building days, despite having the 5150 combo as my main amp, I always chose highest output pickup for the guitars and the X2N was used a few times. In one guitar it was just a wall of tone. But still worked. The other one I read about adjusting the height to whatver sounds good and not to be too worried what’s a good height. Just lower it til it sounds close to what you want. I mean you could throw this at your fridge and I bet it’ll stick more often than bouncing off. Lol
