NGD!!

Post by Guitarbilly »

Bought this one as a backup for my Model 6 Charvel:

This is a Model 3 so it's a bolt-on neck and without the active boost. This is also a 1987, same year as the Model 6.

It sounds and plays great. It's almost completely stock, except the nut, which was changed to a Kahler locking nut. I may upgrade the tremolo to a Gotoh. But the JT6 in this guitar is in pretty mint condition so there's no rush.

I can't remember, do the Model 3s have the J90C in the bridge?

Nice! Dig me the old timer Charvels. Granted, I wouldn't kick a new one out of bed either, but us graybeards remember the glory days with great fondness.

I'm not sure if it's the 80c or the 90c. I forgot to look when I put new strings today but I'll take a look tonight. Whatever it is it sounds great.

The main thing for me is the top mounted Floyd on these older models. I can't deal with the recessed tremolos, the picking angle feels too awkward to me. Although they're making some new guitars with top mounted Floyds again so that's cool.

That’s pretty sweet. Enjoy it! An aged white or cream is one of the only colors that I’m okay with tort guards on.

Love it! I do wish that my Super Dinky had a top mount Floyd like that. Both the J80 and J90 are awesome pickups.
