Purple stripe SR. This amp is a bad motherfuker

The guy made me an offer I couldn’t refuse and I’ve been eyeing this for over a month now

Exceeding expectations actually. Spent a good hour or so without adding any EQ and just jamming it as god built it. Was able to dial in some pretty great and aggressive high gain tones. I know there’s only like one component difference in the circuit of EQ/non EQ models but I swear it sounds less honky than my other marks when disengaging the EQ

Anyway, then I popped on the “Cali Q graphic” on the stomp

HOLY. FUCK.

Now we’re REALLY talking

I did have to modify my settings that I dialed for “non EQ” but man this thing sounds epic.

For leads it definitely dunks on both the IV and the V for smoothness. Just crazy immediacy and tightness. It’s been a long time since I had my DRG red stripe, but I dunno I think I like this better from what I recall (and that amp was incredibly awesome)

I’ve heard the purple stripes as being “the least aggressive” but IDk, this sounds pretty fuckin aggressive to me

No issues balancing in a beautiful clean and a menacing lead either (didn’t have that issue on my red stripe either, but I’ve heard people say that)

Only tested through my thiele so far so still have a lot to experiment with. Definitely very glad that I didn’t let the lack of GEQ scare me away

That's super sweet man. Enjoy it! I know I just offed my Mark III but they're great amps. Don't forget to cop some Trey riffs/tones too.

Thanks dude!!

And yeah it sounds great. I’ve just duplicated all my presets on the stomp to include it so I just switch to that bank when firing this thing up

I’ve done the same thing with a light “always on” reverb for when I’m using my amps that don’t have any on board. I’m not even slightly sold on the amp modeling stuff in there yet but everything else it does is amazing and inseparable from my rig now and that’s what I got it for anyway

I’d be curious to check those out, they seem pretty damn rare though. And it would have to be at a price that’s not approaching what Mike B. Would charge for a retrofit

The Mesa 5 band on the HX sounds amazing in the loop though so I’m pretty satisfied

Later today I do want to try running the preamp of the III into the power amp of the IV (which will give it the GEQ with its power section)

Ya know for science

Thanks man! And definitely. I think Trey has an assortment of Blue and Purple stripes. And he actually runs his geq as a mid boost

Right? Closest I got was having a IV and V at the same time. I wanna go hangout at SoS’s place.

Around the corner there’s a 5153, badlander 50, and DR too so all kinds of fun

At the very moment I woke up today with 0 amp gas. We’ll see how long that lasts lolol

Currently thinking about a fancy amp switcher now though. I also have an imbalanced head to cab ratio. At this point kind of thinking of just grabbing another c90 loaded widebody 1x12 to leave at my drummers house and then I could easily swap out heads week to week at my liesure and still not be missing anything at home in the cab department

I will also add… mark III is finally the first Mesa I’ve had that is FULLY FLAWLESS in terms of a loop that responds to my hyper specific RC-500 use case. Mark IV is a close second but loses a few point only because it does get wonky it R2/Lead presence pots aren’t pulled (which is actually find because I prefer that sound anyway, but still)
