I finally played a BlackStar I actually like

Post by Guitarbilly »

I went to GC during lunch today to get some strings and decided to try out a few amps. Played the Mesa Badlander again, which I already knew I love, then the 5150 Iconic head for the first time, which I neither loved nor hated.

But they also had a BlackStar JJN 50, which is the new signature amp for Jared James Nichols. I'm a big fan of his playing so I decided to plug it in. It actually sounded really good. Kind of a hot rodded JTM45 tone with a really good master volume and reverb. It's built on the St James platform so it's super light too.

I still have my reservations with BlackStar as far as reliability goes but as far as tones, this is one of the best new, affordable amps in the market for rock. It really sounds like an old Marshall.
I'm not sure I can get past my BlackStar prejudice to get one  But I'm considering it. I think that's the first time I am actually interested in one of their amps lol

I feel the same about the Iconic lol.
I like 5150s. The rest of you bullshit amps can get fucked.
