Cause all I do is post nerd Shit.
But for real… this is the best cables I’ve ever used. The PRS signature series… what an amazing improvement..
I’ve always known cables make a pretty big difference. And yeah I mean big cause it’s enough to be completely off without you knowing it until you plug in sumthin that fucking is a Eureka moment..
I actually was using a planet waves from my pedal board out and a Boss cable into the front of the board from my guitar. The boss was good but despite being what seemed to be a braided flex cable that shot was a rolly Polly at the end of shows. We play long sets these days and I guess just the times walking back to my amp was enough to tangle the hell out of it. No bueno…
So the shop I’m at is a PRS dealer but he never had their cables until now and this Signature series has on the packaging “tangle free”. And they simply feel like they would be.. and then of course, it’s “tuned capacitance” etc.. I expected a change but this literally makes every guitar sound better. I can’t get over the improvement on EVERY single guitar. In multiple amps so it’s not just into my 5153. This shit is doing some magic to the tone… don’t believe me if you want! Haha

Re: Before you know it I’m gonna be wearin taped eyeglasses
You just have it replacing your boss cable? So still PW from board to amp?
I like 5150s. The rest of you bullshit amps can get fucked.
Re: Before you know it I’m gonna be wearin taped eyeglasses
I do and that doesn’t seem to change it much. But no I’m running straight from the guitar into the amp right now..
It has this smoothing but bright clarity in the highs, and the most obvious change is compared to the PW, the lows are so much more compact and in tact. The PW is muddier and Bigger to some degree but not in a good way.
I’m likely gonna grab another from the board but for now, I’m not hearing to big a change with the PW still in line… But I made tha camparisons all guitar straight to amp

That's interesting. I need new cables so I.might as well buy one of those.
I wonder how these differences hold up once it goes through pedal buffers etc. I do 4cm and 3 of the 4 are my multichannel snake, which is made out of Mogami cables. So the PRS would only be the cable between the guitar and the first pedal in the chain (tuner), which is buffered. Will it still make a difference? I'll find out lol

Yeah I know there’s a lot at play to maybe mitigate the change. But I did buy it first for the tangle free shit. And then the owner started talking about how great these actually are.. yadda yadda. And they really are..Guitarbilly wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 2:13 am That's interesting. I need new cables so I.might as well buy one of those.

For me I have a pretty small board so only one patch cable in front. So it’s PRS signature into tuner then noise gate then out thru my PW and I don’t hear much difference from just plugging straight in with the PRS cable. I’m sure a bigger board and more connections will change things still. And I learned that after I had my first BIG board built. The dude at the shop also does board builds and it’s anal times 10! Lol really neat and precise and I had to pull it apart cause all the shit finally on the board at once messed my tone up. So the next board, if I ever do it, will use this older but still really transparent Voodoo Labs pedal switcher….
But for live I use just the 2 pedals up front and then a CAE Boost/line driver for the solo boost and the Boss RV6 for the solo delay/verb in the loop. So just hit the amp footswitch for my loop on and off.. So In that simple setup, so far one PRS cable changed it for the better
Re: Before you know it I’m gonna be wearin taped eyeglasses
i still use the cables i "borrowed" from my friends back in high school. if i was going to my 25 year reunion this year, maybe id give them back but fuck that cause then i gotta buy new ones. the brown colored one is my favorite
Re: Before you know it I’m gonna be wearin taped eyeglasses
Goddamn! 25 year old cables! Impressive! I have one that is around that old, but it's only 10'.
Seems interesting, these PRS cables. I am also using the same pedal snake that Bill uses, and I have 2 of those flat patch cables connecting tuner to gate, and gate to Blackhole. But live, I'm still using the Shure wireless, and at home I have a 10' Mogami cable. Maybe I will grab one and see.

Man, those Signature cables are pricey, but the tangle free feature is making me want to buy one.
A few decades ago I made a 10' guitar cable from a really stiff, cable TV coaxile cable.
It was absolutely impossible to move around but, I was amazed by how much treble came through.
I guess the thick, plastic insulation around the core wire is great for lowering the capacitance?

I know about capacitance In cables and all that but I can’t say I know how they are getting specific capacitance for what he thinks makes a good sound. But I know Paul Reed Smith is a guy who thinks about these kinds of things and I’m sure they have their way! It’s also silver plated… again I know Silver is supposed to be the best as far as clean and clear Audio performance. Without having all these options straight in front of me , I can’t say if silver plating copper makes any difference or if it’s even that unique in cables. But I know cables make a difference. I’ve known this for 20 years when I got ahold of Canare (?) I think. At that time it was supposed to be really good and even before I really got into the nerdy tech shit, I heard the difference in high end straight away.I'MAPUNKROCKERDAMNIT wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 10:25 pm Man, those Signature cables are pricey, but the tangle free feature is making me want to buy one.

Passive pickups change their frequency response depending on how much cable they have hanging off them. The more capacitance, the further it pulls down the knee. A long enough cable will make a single coil sound thicker and a humbucker sound muddy.
PRS being PRS, he likes things to be consistent and repeatable. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a cable that he really likes the sound of, then used his knowledge of engineering to make every cable sound just like that one so that everyone would load down their pickups to the exact same degree he does when he's designing and testing them.
As for the pedalboard to amp thing, the capacitance only matters up to the first buffer. Once it hits that buffer the load on the pickup is fixed and additional cable added afterwards won't alter the frequency response of the pickup any further. Higher quality cables may be more reliable and generate less noise, but I don't think they alter the sound after the buffer.
