So someone just pointed this out on Facebook and I'll share it here, cuz I find it very odd, but after looking at the pictures, I can't argue it.
For some weird reason, Gibson is attaching the neck to the body on these walnut finish DC Juniors different from the way it's always been...perhaps it's to get around the need for a long neck tenon or to make you pay custom shop money to get that detail right? The fretboard on DC Juniors is supposed to end (or join) AT the body, but these go over the body.

I would like them much more with ebony fretboards. Just my opinion. Or at least really dark rosewood boards.

I see what you're saying and I'm not sure why they're doing it this way, maybe a change to reinforce the neck joint a bit? It's hard with Gibson because people complain about any small change, but I actually think it's a good idea from a structural point of view. What's the actual downside of this?
Anyway, these are not Custom Shop guitars, it's just a new color that they're offering for their regular production models. The prices are the same as the other finishes. The Jr. is $1699 so not bad at all.

Re: Gibson Dark Walnut
Well the only DC junior prior to this they ever did this with was on the 2018/2019 tributes (those ones with the funky scratch plates that all the electronics were attached to.

And? I'm not sure what you're getting at. Those guitars are ugly because of the pickguard, but they play and sound good.cliffenstein wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 12:12 pm Well the only DC junior prior to this they ever did this with was on the 2018/2019 tributes (those ones with the funky scratch plates that all the electronics were attached to.
I don't see an issue with this neck joint, other than "it's not how they used to make it".

Re: Gibson Dark Walnut
Well, how it’s always been made is important to a lot of people, including me. The way it’s always been made also makes the double cut junior one of Gibson’s best upper fret access guitars. This change may impact that second point...or maybe it won’t and maybe people won’t care and maybe I won’t care if and when I see one of these guitars in the wild. I figured pointing out this change was pertinent to this thread, though. It was meant as an, "anyone else notice this" kinda thing.
