Friday, one last clip thread

Post by Endtime »

I’ve pretty much went they all my gear and setups. And even came up with new things in the process . Honestly I don’t need new gear as much cause I do kinda do this every once in awhile where I start from ground zero and start dialing and combining different things etc.

So after getting the GGD Invasion kit happening again, I wanted to hear it in a bit thrashier context. So again, I made this is up on the fly. So don’t pay too much attention to the lame riffs. I play a few different tempos and that’s for me to hear shit I think helps.

So what’s the best Thrash amp/tone I got.

It’s between the 6505 boosted with a precision Dr, the XXX boosted with the precision dr. The Evh el34 100 Red and blue channels. Straight in.

6505- precision dr https://app.box.com/s/audts88k5241s6vb308vi39dzx03bez7

5153 Blue channel (gain at noon, so not too hot.” https://app.box.com/s/ngeem7fr5zux135083bou88hst6v4ojs

5153 Red https://app.box.com/s/fa5oujeu5gaqzb06jhdt137azzoimwfg

XXX precision Dr (maybe had this dialed a touch Barker than the others - https://app.box.com/s/xwjq739d79og2rzjvva4qsl7xmdmhcc4

And yeah they are all pretty fucking close cause it’s the same speaker, mic and mic positions. Shows how with a little work we really can make everything sound pretty close to what we want. Like some needed a boost some don’t buy it gets to the same place. I also saw a video of a guy who swapped out a 12at7 In the xxx which usually I’ve hated! But he then used really drastic settings, which I admit I never tried. Cause lower tubes neuter the amp quite a bit. But when using the active eq to sorta get it all back, I never tried. Cause IE max bass would never work with it Stock. It just gets too much being it’s an active eq. But in this case it turns the amp into a beast without some of the fallback in the xxx like a bit of a fuzziness at times. So 20 years after owning that bitch, I found a new tone!

Cool shit man, I think if I had to pick a favorite it would the Blue channel of the 5153, because I can hear more of your picking hand dynamics Like on that first riff, the fast gallops between the chords sound clearer on the Blue clip, due to the lesser gain. I like heavy riffing with lower gain, you really get to hear the player more than the amp. They're very close tone wise, but the dynamics of the Blue clip sounds best to me.

I agree and I like the blue for that very reason plus it’s got the best punch. I’m not sure I’ve totally captured the punch In The room , but downstroke chugs and gallops really have that “gut” punch with the right volume. I don’t know if you saw in the “k100l thread I posted a version with the blue channel and it turned out even better than usual. My little “trick” for when I record rhythms, is left and right is the red and the center 3rd track is the blue. I always seem to forget 3 rhythms over 2 or even 4. 3 gives me that bigger sound and even brightness. While still making it feel like it’s just Left and right. But using that punch of the blue for that center track adds some punch and clarity to the whole guitar mix, even tho I usually have it about 7-8 db’s lower than the hard panned guitars

yep I think I’d go there too. I thought the xxx might win cause it does sound great in the room! Hell the 6505’whichbusuay isn’t generally what I reach for for “ thrash”, but I got some ideas for it! Hah
