Or maybe AI would just tell us to buy a real amp, that would be peak advancement since it's the smartest thing it could say.

Check out Neural amp modeler. Kind of like an open source Kemper with some machine learning thrown in. Sounds awesome.

Yeah Neural DSP and Mercuriall DSP both do this. I’ve been a fan of Mercuriall’s ReAxis and U530 plugins (Mesa Triaxis and Engl E530) for a long time. I also have their Euphoria plugin (Ecstasy) and that’s great. Recently downloaded their ampbox set so I could test their new models before buying and their Mega Rectifire is probably the closest I’ve heard anyone get to a proper Dual Rec. I always feel like most modeling setups completely miss the Dual Rectifier sound and this is based on me owning 4 of them over the years. Neural’s take on the Fortin Cali is also awesome. So is their SLO.

Try the Neural DSP Fortin Nameless (Meshuggah).

I have. The Nameless is pretty damn sweet. I still prefer real in the room amps at the end of the day, but I don’t have an issue using plugins for some things. Hell for getting practice in at home when my wife and kid are home, plugins are great.
