E/Eb players what's your setup preference?

Post by Guitarbilly »

I know this stuff is subjective... So for the sake of this thread let's consider

09s and lighter - light strings
10s regulars
11s and up - heavy strings

EDIT: for action just go by what you feel your action would be considered.

I voted wrong.

9-48 with low action for me! I was thinking 10-52 when I voted, but that's my drop C/D standard. Also, 4/64!! Goddamn that's low! I'm around 6/64 on my Ibanez, and that feels lower than the rest of my guitars. Everything else is in drop B, though. Are we pressing down strings when measuring?
I like 5150s. The rest of you bullshit amps can get fucked.

I haven't ever measured my action, I just sort of dial it by feel and live with it. I feel like I'm probably "medium". But I am a light string guy. I don't need to fight anything, and I like the sound of lighter strings more.

E - 10-46

Eb - 11-49

I can't remember the last time I measured my action.... I really set it up by feel, but I'd say it falls in the medium range
I can't remember what my signature was..... I'm sure it was something interesting..... :quote:

I'm regular strings/mid action. I usually play in Eb standard, but I have some guitars in E standard and my Balaguer Scumden in D standard. All of my 24-3/4" scale guitars are in Eb standard and so is my Telecaster. I use 10-46 strings on all of them. I usually keep my action around 5/64-6/64 at the 12th fret. No issues with any of my guitars.

I used to adjust pickup height and action by feel, but Eric really pushed me to start measuring it, and I have to say, it's been a big improvement!! You wouldn't think so, but the consistency between all of my guitars these days in terms of action, feel, attack, and the juice they all put out based on pickup height is really nice! That little $10 measuring card thing has been my most used guitar specific tool by a surprising amount.

I voted for Regular/Low but just realized that I have been using 9-46's in E for a while now.

Not pressing anything, but you're right, it's really subjective to each player.

I edited the OP. Just vote on what you feel your action is.

10-52 - drop c#. medium action, I suppose. I've never measured it.

Heavy strings, 10-52 are I suppose. Mid action, haven't measured.
