NAD!!!

Post by bleedingwhiskey »

Ever since I got my newest Strat last December I've been wanting a Fender amp for clean tones/edge of breakup tones. My Jet City amps sound great, but they just can't do a Fender clean tone stock. Plus, I wanted an open back combo. So, I found this bad-boy on Reverb for a great price!

It's a 2023 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe IV. It looks pretty much brand new. The previous owner replaced the stock Celestion V-Type speaker for a Celestion Neo Creamback speaker and man, it really brings this amp to life! It also takes some weight off the amp, as well. I bought from a shop that didn't realize the speaker was swapped for this. I could see it in the pictures. I assume they saw a Celestion in the amp and copy/pasta the manufacturer specs.

The clean channel is pretty much the basic Hot Rod/Blues Deluxe clean channel they've always had. Just a sparkly, sweet clean tone that starts to break up nicely at noon on the volume knob. The gain channel is fantastic for this kind of of amp. A HUUUGE improvement over the old Hot Rod Deluxe and Blues Deluxe amps I owned for a brief moment. The "more drive" channel is actually very usable. The clean and drive channels both take dirt pedals very well, which I guess it what these amps were always know for.

I'm going to check on the bias this evening and roll the preamp tubes a bit. Then jump on getting it to cooperate better with my direct recording setup. I already picked up a Celestion IR for a Neo Creamback in a 1x12 from Celestion. Sound pretty spot on from what I've been able to do directly with the amp at the moment.

Way too many, yet not enough

I need more than just Jet City amps

There's always room for another

Good to hear that the new Hot Rod's are an improvement. The cleans were always good but a better drive channel is enticing. Have been in a rut and have been wanting to get Fender combo to mix it up. Nice score and thanks for the inspiration!

Congrats!! I’ve always liked the HR series stuff, even the old ones. Glad to hear the gain tones are improving on the new ones!

I've always loved the HRD as a pedal platform. If I was playing clean combos that would be my amp of choice. They're affordable, loud, easy to find and they take pedals as well as anything else out there.

Sweet! I've been looking for one of these myself. I see a lot of Devilles (who wants a 4X10 FFS?) and I see lots of the older models, especially MK 1s, but I want a MK IV.

Looks awesome. I still need a Fender Amp. The only Fender I ever had was the tiny Champion 600. And, it was awesome.
