Found Out My Dog Has The Beetus
Found Out My Dog Has The Beetus
Little guy had a series of events and we noticed an uptick in his drinking and the amount of piss per outing. Then the potty breaks became more frequent, so made a vet visit hoping for a urinary tract infection and received diabetes instead.
I noticed his legs thinning and I was hoping it wasn't diabetes, because I had a cat who died from that. And when we were told (daughter and I) we were shocked, cause he isn't overweight. He's always been a lean mean machine, so now I have to administer two shots of insulin a day (which is okay by me). I gave him his first this evening and we're watching him like a hawk to ensure no adverse effects.
But man, even with expensive alkaline kibble and limited treats he still got it. The vet is under the impression that it's hereditary since one factor going against him: he's inbred. So we'll see how it goes from here. The vet did say he'll eventually get cataracts and I'm like "dude is 3 and already gonna get old people shit?" but that's what diabetes does do dogs apparently. Anyway, had to share to get it off my chest.

Damn, man. That sucks. I hate when the pets get anything that makes them even mildly uncomfortable. Something long-term like that feels horrible to deal with.
Mojo, man.

Thank you dude! He's actually taking the insulin well and turning back into his old self. It's crazy how much we don't realize the change due to its gradualness. I'm just gonna remain positive and hope for a nice long life with managed carenightflameauto wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 3:10 pm Damn, man. That sucks. sorry man, hope he gets through this and lives a long happy life.
i know friends that have spent $thousands if not tens of $thousands on their dogs healthcare. i was always a dog person - always had them growing up, and never really liked cats, but my wife wanted a cat, and now i love that little weirdo

Dude, you ain't kidding and I appreciate the well wishes. Thankfully, he's taken to the insulin injections really well. He's now on 3 units twice a day and he's turned around quite a bit. Right now we're working on clearing up an allergic reaction to the bison in his food and putting him on lamb. Seems to be helping slowly.Landshark wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 9:15 am
