Really good sounding clip.
These speakers seem interesting. In the intro video for these did it seem like he suggests buying 2 or more due to variances in production?

haha yes, he did say that lol. He's German and likes his dry jokes, though. I bought 4 because...maybe I want a 412 with them. We'll see when they arrive what I decide to do, but I'm thinking about pairing them with V30s in a couple of my cabs.

I wasn't sure if it was an attempt at selling more or admitting that the speakers could wildly vary in quality.
I get that there will be some variance naturally.

Probably a little bit of both, and a bit of joking around. Maybe less about the sales. These things were gonna sell out day 1 regardless of that comment.

Some of these metal guys have gotten obsessive with speakers. The whole V30 history is kind of eye opening to show how vastly different speakers can sound from different time periods. Sometimes you wonder how you can even call them the same model.

He mentions the cones specifically coming from the UK, so makes me wonder if they used the same manufacturer that Celestion does for these.

But yeah, even in my Mesa cabs. I bought 2 within a year of each other and each cab sounds different. You try to listen to each speaker through recordings, and they each sound different. Different enough that you may like some of them and not others. I think that's partly the point he's trying to make that most people probably don't realize.

I think every speaker type varies. Heck, the 4x12s I've had, you could move a mic between speakers and each one would sound just enough different you could hear the difference even when you centered the mic to start the process of finding the sweet spot. Must just be something about the way speakers are put together that makes that happen. Paper variance in the cone, magnet variance, coils not being perfectly aligned, who knows what else could differ?

Nolly and Josh Middleton talk about this a bunch if you wanna look around the internet. But from what I've gathered, it seems like the cone makes a HUGE difference. Different paper, density, doping, manufacturing process...all of these things will have an impact. They've tracked it to times when Celestion changed their cone production manufacturer or process. That's when the V30s start sounding different...when the cones change. I've anecdotally seen people talk about this with other Celestions, too.

i think the v30 obsession has just gotten a little out of hand. i have my old crate BV from the 90s and ibanez thermion cab from the mid 00's, and i have a few random ones i bought. no idea where or when any of them were actually made. yeah, they all might sound slightly different, but they all sound like v30s in the end to me, and what is "better" for one amp and guitar might not be for another, i know im not gonna go nuts buying a million different ones to try like some of these dudes. seems more like a click generator topic to me at this point

Yeah, I can see that to some degree. It's weird because these time periods are so specific when the "good" years were. The newest ones have gone back to the older methods for cone production. I have a hard time arguing on either side because 1. I have no real personally experience digging into this, and 2. I don't care that much. But...I know I've had V30s I've absolutely hated, and I now have some V30s that sound pretty fucking great.
