Oh good call there, can’t tell from the photos but I just asked the seller

Very clean looking amp

It is. IVB too. I can tell by the loop and tolex. Shouldn’t have too much of a difference in tone. It may have the MC90 which is still a great speaker. STR430s are 6L6s across the board. That lead voicing switch of midgain vs harmonics has a subtle effect on the lead tone but it’s sweet all the same. Mdigain has more mid push, harmonics lets out more sizzle and rawness.

Likes like its an MC90, which is a speaker I've enjoyed in the past

GAS is definitely high.

Did you have the combo version? EDIT: nvm I already asked you that somewhere else this morning

The only thing I'm a little apprehensive about is that I've not really ever been able to get on with high gain tones once at band volume from an open back combo (rectoverb 50, express 5:50, peavey, various fender combos with high gain pedals up front, etc.)

Obviously I could always stick the chassis in a headshell if I felt it was a problem

Headshell is the way to go. Or you could try adding a thiele cab. I think Dave has a 50 Cal+ combo with a thiele that he loves. Haven’t seen him or his Vlady profile around in a bit (despite all the other Russian bots I’ve bant) but I remember him digging that setup.

The loop on the IV worked better than the loop on the VII, IME.
I like 5150s. The rest of you bullshit amps can get fucked.

This is true. The IV loop was the last "normal" loop Mesa used. After that they went to all kinds of weird designs, all of which suck tbh

The whole DC, F, Rectifier, TC, LS etc series and the Marks V, JP and VII have terrible loops. Some of them can be fixed by rewiring to series but other can't.

But the Marks II, III and IV and the Caliber .22 and .50 have traditional loops. I heard they're back to a normal loop in the Badlanders now but I haven't tried it yet.

FWIW the series loop on the roadster is just fine IMO, the only problem with it for me is because clean Chanel and modern mode listen to the preamp differently and there for if I have a clean loop going on my pedal and change tk high gain the volumes lose balance. If I wasn’t doing live looping with clean and high gain stuff stacked on top it wouldn’t be a problem lol

The express 5:50 + had a good basic loop too

Well that's because the loop is not fine  They should have padded each channel/mode at unity gain into the loop.

I bet your 5153 doesn't have that problem, because the loop on it its actually properly done.

I never played the Express but the loop looks like a normal design.
