“New” cab. A little re-recording!
Re: “New” cab. A little re-recording!
Cause its always how it goes.. After I do some of the shootout, I find sumthin that'll work better with the original..So this is the EVH Celestion again. Just a 57. Did a certain EQ trick I used with the v30 to keep some things better in the mix.. The first EVh clip I had a 2nd mic which really brought out this cool pick attack.. But the EVH has this grunt and growl in the lows that is too good to not be captured right..It does have a little more grit up top but I also like that. Its definitely more unique to me.. And a simple 57 gets it right..
So 5153 el34 100 into the EVH Celestion that was designed for these amps.. https://app.box.com/s/6hx7oe067lge03m1un4o1ltxgztwq7n0

Yeah that is much better. Cuts through the mix like a hot knife through butter and sits where it should. I have long believed anything but a 57 is just fucking around when it just always delivers. I still fuck around sometimes too though. Lol.

Fuck, In Raf'ing it up posting the same clip a dozen times! Well he does a 100x, but still.. hahah j/k bro!
But I figured let me try the 6505 thru a V30/ Believe it or not I never have done the "standard metal tone'.. Never was interested. And mixing turned out just fine.. But I figured Id a/b it against the Contenders IR plugin and some of their v 30s and its just such a well dialed in plugin, and maybe more Produced than I could really do, that I just used the IRs. I did tweak the EQ some. Cause it is very mid forward but the results are pretty good.. Also this morning, might as well throw the XXX in there! haha Also on the IRs cause I wanted to dial back the kids a bit from the source, I used a 2nd mic/cab on each take. And since my cabs are Evh Celestion and v30, I loaded up the EVH IR..

I’ve narrowed it down to the 6505 with the contenders IR. Waza boosting and my Evh 5154 with the Evh Celestions I mic’d with the 57 at the top of this page. They actually are pretty similar I think. I’m prolly sticking with my mic’d clip just cause it’s “mine”. But I’d use the boosted 6505 thru the IRs for sure

Sounds damn good to me!
I always liked 8ohm v30s and didn’t like them in 16ohm. In fact I always liked 8ohm cabs more.
