Ramping up my Synergy game this week
My main rig has been a SYN-1 and PS-2 for a couple years now. About a month ago I picked up a rack kit for the PS-2 and tomorrow I am supposed to be picking up a SYN-2. Looking forward to taking everything apart and wiring it back up actually. Could use a little cleaning up on the backend and it will be fun to have an actual rack again. My only concern is sticking the PS-2, SYN-2, and Juice Goose in a 6 space rack. Seems a bit tight for all of the heat that is going to come off of the tubes. Maybe I should pick up a bigger rack to give it some air?

Nice! I've been seriously looking at their stuff again, the SYN-20IR has caught my eye since I mainly just record at home.

I had mine in an 6-space rack with a G-Major 2. So, top to bottom, it was power conditioner, GM2, blank space, Syn2, PS2. It was fine.eyeball987 wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 3:43 pm My main rig has been a SYN-1 and PS-2 for a couple years now. The PS-2 and PS2 are tube devices and made to withstand heat, you just need to leave space between them and any digital component in the rig.

Just noticed that the wall wart's that I have plugged into the back of the Juice Goose are going to get in the way of racking the SYN-2. Will either have to get a bigger rack, or plug a power strip into the Juice Goose to move the wall warts out of the way.

these are always handy for power strips when you have wall warts that mess things up ...eyeball987 wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 5:40 pm Just noticed that the wall wart's that I have plugged into the back of the Juice Goose are going to get in the way of racking the SYN-2. Thanks! I forgot that those existed. Came up with a workaround after rewiring everything tonight, but I can see the wall warts now. Probably will have to make some more changes and those could come in handy.Landshark wrote: ↑Wed May 14, 2025 7:50 amthese are always handy for power strips when you have wall warts that mess things up ...eyeball987 wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 5:40 pm Just noticed that the wall wart's that I have plugged into the back of the Juice Goose are going to get in the way of racking the SYN-2. they work good not only when space is limited top to bottom (like a single space rack power supply/conditioner sandwiched between other rack stuff), but also when you're prevented from using the adjacent plugs on a strip because the wall warts get in the way.eyeball987 wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 5:33 am Thanks! Re: Ramping up my Synergy game this week
Spent a couple evenings with the SYN-2. The volume on the SYN-1 that I have reacts a little differently than the volume on the SYN-2. When using the volume on the SYN-1, turning it up doesn't really raise the overall level all that much. It just kind of compresses the tone and feel a bit the way a master volume would on a normal amp head. Volume is controlled with the channel volumes on the modules and the PS2 that I am running it into.
On the SYN-2, the volume on the unit adds overall level much faster than the SYN-1 and does eventually get some of that compression that SYN-1 gives me but then I have to run the volume on the PS2 lower. Which is fine I guess since cranking the PS2 isn't really necessary to get that power amp compression sound and feel.
Also, I have the SLOII and Killer Kali loaded up in the SYN-2 right now. The SLO is still my favorite module. The Kali has to have the gains up to about 3/4 of the way to get rid some clank on the attack. Will mess with it some more to see if moving the volume knobs around can get the clank to go away at lower gain levels.
Going to pick up the SYN-R5 pedal so that I can access all 4 channels without having to rotate through them using the button on the front of unit. If I can't source a used one, they are only $130 through Synergy so not a big deal. I rarely switch channels anyway so not a necessity.

I agree with you about the SYN-1 vs SYN-2 dynamic range. The 2 is more dynamic with the volume and I there is more headroom . The SYN-1 compresses quite quickly.

Didn't know that was a thing. Good to know that I can still hear the difference! Think I will keep the SYN-1 around because I liked being able to dial in the compression and feel without the extra volume.Guitarbilly wrote: ↑Wed May 21, 2025 1:38 am I agree with you about the SYN-1 vs SYN-2 dynamic range.
