New ToneX “EVH pack” nails it

Man a topic that has been done to death. And I’ve never chased that old tone. But this new ToneX pack, idk what they call it, was released with that Jim Gaustad(sp?) guy who’s prolly been the closest to truly get the old tone on YouTube , made this. And I guess it’s mainly VH1 and VH2 tones. And they are in there but it pretty much gets any of the first 4 albums… while I’ve never chased that tone, to hear it THIS close and get to play it is pretty cool. Fucking gnarly ass tone.. I guess FB vids can’t be embedded. So I’ll just link my vid from FB. I made it public. I literally learned this about 30 minutes before I played it thru close enough. It’s just the single rhythm track and the OG drums.. plenty of fuckups cause l, yeah Eddie has some tough swing. Especially Al that little lick at the end of the “pre-chorus”. I missed it every time! Haha. But who cares. I’m just jammin anyway…

There is a free ToneX plugin, as well as a full featured. I just grabbed the free one and this “pack” is $80… and of course I jammed some EVH but I found myself just playing with this tone. It feels good to play whether it’s old VH or not.

yeah, this morning I was listening to the clips Gus G made and it sounds really good. I had just returned the Tonex pedal 2 weeks ago and now I am thinking I am going to buy another one I will probably just get the small version this time though.

Thanks. And what’s the benefit of the pedal? For something like this the cabs are pretty essential. I even ran my Evh blue channel thru the IRs included and it’s in the ballpark… I get a pedal could be used thru an effects loop, but have to defeat the cab sims… For just fucking around at home, the free ToneX software. I think it’s ToneX CS or sumthin. Might as well just install that up too. I believe each “pack” gets 5 different “installs” . So on a pedal, on the Computer DAW etc..

Even tho it’s a video, I took the audio straight from the DAW. So headphones or studio monitors will still show the tone pretty good. It’s really a great sounding and feeling plugin. It’s a fun tone to just mess around with. I think it would be cool to add to heavier recordings as a secondary tone underneath the main tones. And I bet I actually will use for solos even over the death metal shit. It has a great lead tone too of course. And I think it’ll sit well in heavy recordings

Yeah the only real benefit of the pedal is to be able to take the tones with you without being tied to a computer.

I really like Jim’s deep dive videos, not even for the “EVH” content, but just in ways to get a great sound, and then You can sort of do your own +/- thing with it.
