NGD… and now for something completely different

So Strandberg has been living rent free in my head for a while. Always wanted one but I have all my various well documented bitching

But finally decided that the only way out was through

There was some added drama…. First UPS lost the package in transit, the. GC lost the package in store for several hours after I was supposed to pick up (bought a used unit to be shipped to store)


So I bought a used NX6 Prog from GC. I’ve heard a lot of QC horror stories on the internet so definitely had some reservations especially buying used.

But god damn. Everything immaculate. There’s a few finish chips (it’s used so not a problem) but fret work, fret edges, blah blah blah. Flawless.

Been playing it through my Mark IV the last couple hours just grinning from ear to ear. The Suhr humbuckers sound incredible and the tonal options from the 5 blade switch tick all my typical boxes and more.

There was a lot of unknowns for me here… will I like the wndureneck? How will I feel about the fanned frets? Etc. well I find the neck awesome, and despite what I’ve read online, no issues with thumb over in first position (I do have Neanderthal hands though)

My only negatives: maybe just an adjustment thing, but I do have some concerns about the tuning pegs on a floating bridge. Seems very easy to send things out of whack while trying to tune and cause issues. Also, Low E string feels almost maxed out on the peg. Not a real problem yet but mildly concerning, but may just be a setup adjustment thing with this design. As far as overall setup goes, I’m shocked at how it’s playing out of the box as a used guitar shipped halfway across the country

There are a handful of finish chips around the body edges, but this is a used unit for nearly a G less than what they retail for new so that’s fine and no points against strandberg for that

I'm not a huge fan of the Strandberg look, but I played one at Atomic Music a while ago and I was shocked how comfortable they are. It really shows how much thought they put into the ergonomics of the guitar. They sound really good too.

I wouldn't worry too much about the tuning on the bridge, it's no different than fine tuners on a Floyd trem. Once you get the hang of it, it's a non issue.

The top and finish are killer too!! Congrats man!!!

I picked one up over the summer (green, non-trem version). A friend has one and has been raving about it, so I decided to try one. They are very comfortable guitars. It's awesome for WFH at a standing desk. I can play guitar all day and it weighs about 4.5lbs, so it never gets heavy.

Haha yeah I know the looks definitely aren't for everyone, surprisingly the aesthetic was one of the things that initially got me looking at them. Obviously way different appearance than my PRSi or LP. I'm all over the place

I was a little hesitant about a trem vs fixed bridge, but seems pretty sweet so far. One thing I've noticed is that it seems to stay to the exact center point of the tuner led like a laser no fluctuation on the attack and decay like at all

Thanks! Definitely was an unknown how it would feel in the hands, no where around here seems to keep them in stock. Was a little worried how I'd feel about the weird neck shape but it turns out I like it a lot

You shouldn’t run out of any play with the “fine” tuner the person who last changed the strings likely left too much slack. Just pull that string thru with a little more tension to start. IIRC. I could be getting my headless mixed up but I don’t remember too much deviation from the setups.

I have a handful of these and just got 2 OG 80s Steinbergs in recently. Those were fun to mess with. They sounded surprisingly killer and they came with 80s Duncan Custom Customs . But the Strandbergs feel pretty nice too despite that neck shape. Can’t say I jammed the hell out of em. But felt fine. IF I had to pick one, I would take the OG Steinberger. Congrats tho. The shape doesn’t offend me one way or another

I was worried that I wouldn't be able to switch between the Strandberg neck and standard C-necks without it feeling really weird. But the only time I even notice the Strandberg neck is when I'm playing ringing chords (G, C, D, etc) where I tend to grip the neck more. But on barre chords and lead runs, the neck just guides you to the right place. It's a really cool design.

I've also been very impressed with the pickups. They sound great clean, they split well, and they can handle all the brootz (is that still a word?) lol
