Friend of mine (who bought my old Recto and JVM HJS) for years ran a DS-1 into a wound up 1987x. He sounded great - I talked to him a couple months ago and asked how my old amps were doing....
He still has them but went back to the plexi/ds1 combo
I'm guessing the 1987X is running with some gain on it, then the DS-1 pushes it further with a bit of volume and gain as well?
Yeah that's the Gary Moore 80s rig. Gained out plexi with the DS1 pushing it. It's a great tone.
I miss the 1987x sometimes.
I set my DS-1W between 9:00-10:30 on all three controls (custom setting), and it sounded awesome on the plexi channel of the IR-X. I prefer the BD-2W on both channels how I have the IR-X set. Seems like I'd just go with the BD-2W, however, I prefer different settings for each channel. I would probably like the SD-1W more than I already do on the plexi channel if I set the bright switch to the center (darkest setting), then adjust the EQ controls.
I like the BD-2W on both channels, but different settings preferably.
I like the DS-1W on the plexi channel, but think it'd be too much on the BE channel.
I like the SD-1W on the plexi channel, but would possibly like it more with the bright setting set to the center/darkest setting, rather than to the left.
As an aside, the BD-2W seems to be a bit like the Rat. It has a great range on the drive control, from light overdrive to almost fuzz. The BD-2W is sort of like a smoother, more refined Rat.
