Re: Ordered the Friedman IR-J

But I wish there was a gain control for the boost so I could balance the preamp gain and the boost gain a bit better. It's a great pedal overall but I don't think it will replace the IR-D for me. I have the IR-D really dialed in and I think it works better for what I'm doing. Regarding the boost ga...

Re: Ordered the Friedman IR-J

Interesting - I am really curious how your verdict will be. Currently I am trying to build a simplified and more reliable board and with all the resent gear news I am currently considering to pair the new fractal VP4 with perhaps something like the Friedmann IR preamps. The first YT reviews of the I...

And thank you for having everything set up and organized, it is indeed a fun thing to do.

New Pickup Day

A couple of weeks ago I lent my Fernandes Revolver to my daughter as she wants to start a band with her friends. I still had the MCP Angel Dust parked in there, which I have planned to put in my Schecter Strat and I did not want to put back the original humbucker which I found uninspiring. At the en...

Re: Another "Please help me decide" thread

The Schecter ist a generally great guitar. I think Schecter, resp. Nick Johnston fixed everything that is suboptimal on a regular Strat: Input jack, volume knob, trussrod access, PU cavity, tuners … On the downside, when I got mine I expected a bit less weight, it is slightly heavier than my America...

Re: BOTR 2024 Rules and Discussion Thread

It has both, pre and post tone stack. The additional loop is tube buffered and works like you would expect a good loop to function, the original is IMO with no practical use. Quote Nik: „ The weird original loop is there, to preserve originality and tone. A new buffered loop is also added, as it mig...

That's right - with cathode bias you could perhaps take an increasing idle noise level as an additional indicator of the tubes aging/drifting apart

Re: Tube lifetimes.

On heavily used amps I would probably check periodically the bias settings. I have a worn out pair of 6L6 tubes that is meanwhile impossible to bias properly as their values drifted completely apart. You may be able to lower the risk of blowing tubes by keeping an eye on their values. On the other h...

Re: BOTR 2024 Rules and Discussion Thread

Oh damn! I think yours is the first I’ve seen. How’s the FAS treating you? So far I am pretty happy with it. The amp arrived on the last day of my vacation and I did not have too much time to explore yet. I do not know how it compares to the original thing, I never played the SLO, but the first cho...
