I don't think I ever used 9-46 but I can see myself liking that as a good compromise between 9s and 10s. I'll buy a few sets and see if I like them.

Easiest solution would be to get a level switcher like this:

That will bring your preamp down to instrument level and make it easier to use it with any amp.

Yeah I was supposed to go see it last weekend but we canceled because of the weather. I'll go this weekend. The price is really good, but I can't wrap my head around the idea of a thin LP that is not a Special or Jr. I like SGs too. I've had several over the years. Wouldn't mind buying another one.
