Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . the SM58.
Anything else you guys have experience with?
I'm being called on to do some singing by the guys I play bass for.

I'm a big fan of the sennheiser 935... sounds great and does a good job of rejecting stage noise... if you're in a really loud band you could try the 945 which has a tighter polar pattern

I have and use senn e935 for backing/harmony vocals and its a great mic. I have other mic's i've used and try from time to time that are good as well but i've used the e935 the longest. At events i've played that provide backline and pa most of the time its been shure sm 58 or beta 58's and am fine using them.

Yeah I have the OM5 here too. Great mic. That said, the first answer usually is the 58 for a reason. It's a cheap mic and the industry standard.

I just ordered a Haun MBD219C for this application. I have several mics that sound good, but I really liked the omni mic these guys make, so I wanted to try this one out. https://daleproaudio.com/products/mbho- ... microphoneCole

If the 58 is too pleb for you get a Beta 58! Sounds 95% the same but you get to pretend you’re better than everyone since it’s a slightly different color.

Using that logic we should all be playing Squiers through practice amps

I got my wife a beta 58 when she was singing for a band. Now I consider it mine.

Me too, and it suits my dark and sometimes muffled voice. It's very clear. I don't have much treble or crispness in my voice.

Been using a BLUE Encore 200 for the past 7/8 years and it's been amazing. Seen a lot of live shows and handled them all wonderfully. Highly recommend. It does require phantom power if that's a deal breaker. I really want to try the 300.

I have an Encore 100.... decent on vocals but actually really good on snares..... are the Encore series even made any more? I don't see them on Sweetwater and only found the 100 and 200 on Amazon

If you start with an SM58 you’ll gain an understanding of how the industry standard sounds when you sing through it, and it’ll give you a reference point to work with when experimenting with other vocal mic’s.

The e935 is my go-to for live vocals personally. I prefer the e935, and even the e835, sound over the 58 as well as I find the bass a little hyped in the 58 and the Sennheisers have a good bit more clarity in the area where vocals tend to sit. I also pack my sm7b many times in case I just need the sweeter sound it provides. Many times it ends up as my vocal mic for lead vocals, but it often ends up being my choice for a snare drum mic (I usually mic up the side of the shell, not the head).
