I've had a love/hate with this guitar, really wanting one. One day thinking it's fugly... Then, another day, it looks killer. Ebony board, SS frets, and the Dimarzio Crunchlab/Liquifier pickups definitely kick ass, (I owned a JP100D).

Thoughts? I'm specifically going after this color...

They feel and sound fantastic. They also look better in person than in pictures. But they are everyone's cuppa.

Gross color. But I dig the heck out of the body style.

It one of the most ergonomic and effortlessly 'fast' guitars I've ever played, except for maybe my 2002 Parker Fly Deluxe.

yeah that is true, They are very comfortable to play. I think they look good too. They're not the style of guitar I buy, but I really have nothing negative to say about it. Great guitars, just not my thing.

Looks cool to me. I tried a few of the sub $1K Sterlings... I was not thrilled. Wonder if the upper tier is that different.

I don't think it looks bad. Not really my thing, but I don't mind the color so much

I think like most guitars in that range they are hit and miss. I bought a sterling jp150 back in August that is straight up fire. It keeps up with my much more expensive guitars playability wise. Frets and action were perfect. I played three before I found the one I bought though. They weren't bad but this one was just better. I will say the stock pickups were not much, so it got a suhr ssh+ which helped it.

Did that come with Sterling pickups?

It did come with the sterling pickups. I think they are made by G&B pickups, probably ceramic. Reasonably high output at around 16k but I found them to be lacking note definition under higher gain. The suhr SSH+ was a drastic improvement.

That exaggerated to horn is

Reminds me of that abomination Uli Jon Roth plays these days.

I don't particularly like it, but I've heard they are great guitars. I think the standard fret dots are a massive missed opportunity at this price point, but if it's what JP wants... just doesn't seem right to have such boring inlays with a body shape that's fairly exotic.
Also, finished neck,

I agree with the upper bout looking fugly. It would look cool with both the same size like a Jr but it would likely neck dive like a divining rod.

They're alright as long as they don't have the stupid shield/shovel. I wouldn't get one myself, but I appreciate the thought that went into the design. The JP shape is much nicer though.
