Boss GE-7 with MXR ISO-Brick wtf!?

I’ve had the Boss GE-7 eq for a LONG time. No complaints, no boasts. Is what it is.
Enter MXR ISO Brick:
ISO Brick powers every one of my pedals flawlessly, from 18v to 9v.
EXCEPT for the Boss GE-7. I’ve tried every 9v output from the Brick to the GE-7, it gets “power” but the Red LED is so faint visually you can hardly tell. Unplugging the input from the ISO Brick, the 9V Battery inside the GE-7 lets the LED shine Bright as Day!
Which makes me think it is not a mAh issue with the 9v sources.
It also makes me wonder if I’m getting true 9v tone/power or if the GE-7 is acting in “sag” old battery mode.
Any advise welcome!
Thanks
Cade

Some old Boss pedals want to see the old Boss power supply. Try daisy chaining the GE7 with another pedal on the board.

Welcome to the best guitar/amp forum on the interwebznet!!! :rawk: :rawk: :rawk: :rawk:

Just curious... is your GE7 old or new? I'm guessing that, since you had it for a LONG time, it's an old one!

The finnicky power requirements on the GE7 sounds interesting... so, I checked the specs on the GE7... 9v with a 30 milliamp draw. It should work with the 100 mA jack on the Isobrick.... but, like Itchy said, it must have some sensitive parts.

There are two, GE7 schematics online; an older and newer version.
The newer GE7 has a diode (D1) and a resistor (R1) added in parallel, to the battery/power supply.... and they changed some things in line with the power supply tip.
There are 9 integrated circuits on the new and 10 on the old... IC chips can be sensitive to out-of-spec current.
The new changes may have addressed the power supply issue.
